What I Learnt From Creating A Draft And Re-Draft
I have taken/ learnt many things as a result of creating a draft magazine cover and contents page through research and the physical process. One of which being conventions of magazines and how they bran them, I discovered that many magazines use the masthead from the front cover and continue it onto the contents page and editorial notes page, at the bringing of the task I did not notice that this was a key convention of magazines however, I now know that this is essential to magazines branding strategies therefore I decided to include my masthead onto the contents page and editors.
Another convention I learnt when I began this task is that all well branded magazines stick to using only three to four colours and the same for fonts, using this convention for my own magazine I found that this allowed be to create a much more successful and realistic magazine, also it made it easier to create the content and editors page as they could be linked through the use of colours and fonts.
In addition to this I learn a lot about the software I decided to use, Adobe's 'InDesign' this software was completely new to me however as the process of the prelim task has gone on i have taught myself and learnt how to navigate it, now I find it very simple and qucik to use. The reason i think InDesign will be helpful to me in the feature is as it offers many function that other soft wears do not such as Fireworks, Photoshop and Publisher. The soft wear allows me to position resize and adapt features easily and offers a wide range of possibilities to make my magazine appear more conventional .
