Photo Shoot Planning

Planning.

Image One: For my first image I am going to photograph a male band, this will be the band T-One. The models for the band will hold props that represent them individually and their role in the band, I have chosen to do this as it is conventional of bands to do so when staring in music magazines. I have looked at an old magazine that uses an image of The Beatles where they’re holding their instrument (props) to re enforce their role in the band and so that they can be recognised, for example I know that the male in the bottom centre is the as the drummer as a result of him holding a drum stick set prop. This has insipid my first image therefore I will give each individual a prop to represent their role in the band. I will position my models in a unified way, this meaning that all members will be stood close together to show a bond within the band, this is due to it being another convention that I discovered when researching the alternative genre magazines and other magazines staring bands.  The effect of this is that it makes the magazine more welcoming and friendly.

To also make my photograph feel more inviting I will stage the models and ensure that their facial expressions are light hearted and jokey, this gives a sense of enjoyment to the image and band suggesting the magazine will be the same. This yet again is another convention of the alternative and pop genre article’s as it reflects the style of music that is produced by artist within this genre.
I plan to use a medium long-shot of the band/ models so that all members can be captured within the frame. It will also allow for more space to display the props and costumes which help build up the representation of the band.
The costumes that I will use for my models of the band will be ones which follow the stereotypical costumes of pop and alternative bands, these tend to be miss match and non-unified, meaning that each individual is not the same, making them more quirky in comparison to a typical pop artist band which tend to follow mainstream tends. Therefore I will dress one of my models in relaxed clothing that is laid back, secondly I will dress the other wearing a leather jacket, this model will also have his hair styled to a messy finish, the other will be much more polished and smart to follow the idea of contrasting characters and lastly the other will be dressed in a casual smart combination so that they can appear unified as a group however characters stand out individually.

Image two: For my second image I plan to Photograph one of the models to create the suggestion that he is the lead singer of the band, this is very typical of staring bands to just photograph the lead singer for a front cover and then have whole band photographs for the double page spreads.
I will change the costume of this model multiple times to establish what costume best represents the band as a whole. Firstly I will dress the model using a personalised individual style which is also portrayed in image one and then change it to something perhaps stereotypical of the alternative genre instead of just the band. One done I will perhaps edit using Photoshop of Adobe fireworks a logo for the band on an item of clothing or on a prop, much like NME have starred Alex Turner with one of his vinyl records.
Much like in image one I will use props that will represent the band, for example I may use a guitar to begin with and then like NME, a vinyl record, this would represent the alternative genre as pop groups don’t tend to have vinyl records produced as it is an old fashioned way however quirkier groups and artists tend to do so therefore would be representing the genre more clearly.
The models will not be wearing make up in the shoot as it is not conventional of the pop / alternative groups, wearing make up on males tends to be a rock convention.
For this image the models facial expression and body languages will portray a strong character who is less jokey, the model will appear serious yet inviting as they are to represent the whole bands ethic and approach.  This will be in comparison to image one of all the band where more of a ‘bro-mance’ is displayed through the use of facial expressions body language and close positioning.

Image Three: For image three I plan to photograph the whole band together however, unlike image one I shall position the models in a staggered order using different heights and making use of the foreground of the image, the ‘singer’ for example will stand close together but certain models will be ethicized more so than others this will make it seem as if they’re the main face of the band and help establish the band its self for people who do not recognise all members, this is very conventional  of band articles to photograph the band in this way.
Much like image one the models costumes will vary to contrast each other and disturb the typical pop mainstream order when all members wear similar clothing.
This image will be taken in the setting of a studio to give a clean background with effective lighting allowing me to over lay text for articles and edit them out easily.
Facial expressions will remain more serious, this will give me a more ‘picture perfect imagine’ where the band look more focused and professional, to do this there will be little expression to the models faces, this is conventional of bands to look almost moody and un-approachable in group photos.
In this image/ shoot I will angle the models to look forward at the camera to make the image more inviting and informative, this will be using a direct mode of address.

Image Four: for image four i plan on taking images that are based upon big close up shots of each individual, i will use bright high key lighting to keep the images up beat, i will also focus on the models facial expressions, these will be funny and 'goofy' they will be bulling dramatic faces to create impact and presence however will be more inviting than image three.
